The Mercedes-Benz G wagon has been a very special car for as long as I can remember. It has been produced in more or less the same shape since 1979, it has always been and still is the benchmark in off-road capabilities, it came in engines ranging from a 72 horsepower 4-cylinder diesel up to a 630 horsepower 12-cylinder and most of all, it is a lovable quirky car. I don’t think this is true for any other car on the planet.
However, the G wagon convertible is even more special: It was both a serious off-road car and a quirky fashion item at the same time. It is very rare since it was only built in tiny numbers. Unfortunately, it’s production ended in 2013 after 34 years.
One of the clearly very enthusiastic owners is the nowadays famous automotive YouTuber Doug DeMuro.
It is simply thrilling how much he loves his 1999 Mercedes-Benz G500 convertible.
But see for yourself:
What a shame this car isn’t built anymore. Luckily, the G wagon is very likely on of the longest-lasting cars around – however, prices have been on the rise for awhile already, so you may not want to wait any longer…
